Thandi Sarak Eik Kahani (A story of Mall Road), 2024

Thandi Sarrak eik kahani is an art work that reimagines city square—typically defined by hard surfaces and human activity—as dynamic, living spaces that breathe life into the heart of our urban environments. It envisions an opportunity to weave together the past, present, and future through the intentional selection and cultivation of indigenous plants around the motif of hedges from the Victorian garden design encircling the white marble fountain designed to talk about decolonization process, further refer to the colonial structures surrounding the proposed garden. A concrete huge abandoned space on top of the Orange train route will take on a new life manifesting a garden of peace, harmony, a moment of reflective introspection and connectivity with the past legacy of the place for the viewers, passers by and the local community visiting this place in their routines.

Batool is a Pakistani visual artist and academic who earned her BFA from the National College of Arts, Lahore in 1993, and her MA in Art History and Theory from the College of Fine Arts at the University of New South Wales, Australia in 2003. She furthered her education by earning a PhD in Media and Film Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London (SOAS) in 2015. She is the co-founder of the Awami Art Collective. Batool’s work has been exhibited locally and internationally such as the Singapore Art Museum; White Chapel Gallery, London; Aicon Gallery, New York; The National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai; Portimao Museum, Portugal; Rohtas Gallery, Lahore; Green Cardamom, London; Third Line, Dubai; The Devi Art Foundation, Gurgaon; and The Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, Ithaca.

ٹھنڈی سڑک ایک کہانی: مال روڈ، ؒلاہور کی کہانی ہے  جو معتدد تاریخی اور ثقافتی واقعات اور شخصیات کی گواہ ہے۔ مال روڈ کے حوالے سے بنایا گیا یہ  آرٹ ورک  عمومی طور پر شہروں کے چوک چوراہوں کو ایک نئے زاوئیہ سے پیش کرتا ہے جہاں پتھریلے سٹرکچرز اور متحرک انسانی سرگرمیوں کے درمیان دھڑکتی زندگی ہمارے شہری ماحول کا ایک اہم جز بن چکا ہے۔

 یہ آرٹ ورک  وکٹورین گارڈن کے ڈیزائن پر  تیار کیے گے  سفید سنگ مرمر کے فوارے کے ارد گر دیسی اور فراموش شدہ پودوں کے سوچے سمجھے انتخاب  کے ذریعے ماضی، حال اور مستقبل کے تانے بانے کو بنتے ہوئے  ڈی کالونائزیشن کے عمل کے بارے میں بات کرنے کی تحریک دیتا ہے۔

 مذید براں  یہ آرٹ ورک اورنج ٹرین کے روٹ پرواقع  کنکریٹ کی بہت بڑی چھوڑی ہوئی فالتو جگہ کو باغیچے میں بدل کر نا صرف ایک نئی زندگی دیتا ہے بلکہ دیکھنے والوں، راہگیروں اور مقامی کمیونٹی کے لیے اسے امن، ہم آہنگی   اور ماضی کی میراث کے ساتھ رابطے کا ایک ذریعہ بھی فراہم کرتا ہے۔
