Madhu Abuzar

Humming with Ravi, 2024

For the Lahore Biennale, Abuzar continues his ongoing engagement with the River Ravi.  Working on an individual and collective basis (with the Ravi Bachao Tehreek) over the last few years, the artist draws attention to the stresses and pollution suffered by the fragile body of water that over the centuries has defined and irrigated the city.  Abuzar’s project draws on both his own personal memories of the river, and on the experiences of boatsmen, fisherfolk, farmers, and others.  It pays homage to the Ravi while offering a poignant reminder of how human lives can be intimately connected with more-than-human entities.

Madhu Abuzar (b.1994) is a researcher, performance artist, and activist based in Lahore. A graduate of the National College of Arts, Madhu is currently a visiting faculty member at Punjab University. In addition to environmental activism, Madhu’s practice revolves around a collection of the folk stories of communities living along the banks of the river.

ابُوذر مادھو

راوی کے ساتھ گنگناہٹ، 2024

ابوذر مادھو نے دریائے راوی کے ساتھ اپنی جُڑت برقرار رکھی ہوئی ہے اور کچھ برسوں سے انفرادی و اجتماعی طور پر (راوی بچاؤ تحریک کے پلیٹ فارم سے) دریا کی حفاظت کے لیے جدوجہد اور دریائی پانی پر پڑنے والے دباؤ اور آلودگی کے مسئلے کو اجاگر کر رہے ہیں۔ یہ پانی کئی صدیوں سے شہر کو شناخت اور ہریالی دینے میں کلیدی کردار ادا کر رہا ہے۔ ابُوذر کے اس منصوبے کو دریا سے جڑی ان کی اپنی یادوں، اور ملاحوں، ماہی گیروں، کسانوں اور دیگر عام لوگوں کے تجربات سے تحریک ملی ہے۔ اس خاص کا مقصد راوی سے اظہارِ عقیدت کرنا اور یہ باور کرانا ہے کہ انسان کا انسانوں کے علاوہ دیگر انواع  سے بھی دِلی رشتہ استوار ہو سکتا ہے۔

 ابوذر مادھو (پیدائش 1994) لاہور میں مقیم ایک محقق، فن کار اور کارکن ہیں۔ نیشنل کالج آف آرٹس سے فارغ التحصیل، مادھو جامعہ پنجاب میں وِزٹنگ فیکلٹی کا حصہ ہیں۔ ماحولیاتی انصاف کے لیے جدوجہد کرنے کے علاوہ، مادھو دریائے راوی کے کنارے آباد بستیوں کی لوک کہانیاں اکٹھی کرنے کا بیڑہ اٹھائے ہوئے ہیں۔
