Udeido Collective / Dicky Takndare

Koreri Projection, 2024

Koreri Projection is a mixed media installation consisting of found objects, mural-size paintings on canvas and bark and hanging banners, through which a light projection from the ceiling illuminates. It is Udeido Collective’s intention that Koreri, meaning “a new life / a life full of peace” in the Papuan language, also the name of the Papuan independence movement in the 1930-40s, will be projected on the land of Lahore. 

The relationship between Papuan humans and their environment which is manifested in symbols, patterns, or ornaments, is Udeido’s concern in Koreri Projection. The room is transformed into a kaleidoscopic scene that shows how various human hand strokes are visual manifestations that record a summary of the entire ecosystem of a larger and more complex environment, while opening up space for the discussion of massive logging, brutal extraction of nature, and the separation of humans and nature which directly kills the communal existence of indigenous peoples in West Papua. Through a participatory approach, the artists who installed the work as well as viewers alike, will leave temporary shadows and traces in the installation, symbols that represent emotional attachments but also the existence and identity of a people.

Established in 2018, Udeido Collective members include Dicky Taknare, Yanto Gombo, Nelson Nakime, Betty Adii, Costantinus Raharusun, Michael Yan Devis. Their work was featured in the 24th Biennale of Sydney and at the 16th Jogja Biennale.

Dicky Takndare is a visual artist hailing from Papua, Indonesia’s easternmost region, who now lives in Yogyakarta. Through various artistic mediums such as painting, drawing, wood carving, installation, and community involvement, he delves into the socio-cultural landscape of Papua, aiming to advocate for its political and humanistic causes. In 2018, Takndare co-founded the Udeido Collective, a platform uniting young artists from diverse Papuan regions, thereby spearheading a new artistic movement within their homeland.

کوریری پروجیکشن ایک مخلوط میڈیا انسٹالیشن ہے جس میں ملی جلی اشیاء، کینوس اور درخت کی چھال پر بنائی گئی بڑی پینٹنگز اور معلق بینرز شامل ہیں، جن پر چھت سے روشنی کی پروجیکشن کی جاتی ہے۔ اوڈئیڈوکلیکٹیو کا مقصد یہ ہے کہ کورری، جو پاپوا کی زبان میں “ایک نئی زندگی / ایک پر امن زندگی” کے معنی رکھتی ہے، اور40-1930 کی دہائیوں میں پاپوا کی آزادی کی تحریک کا نام بھی ہے، کو لاہور کی زمین پر پروجیکٹ کیا جائے۔

پاپوا کے انسانوں اور ان کے ماحول کے درمیان تعلق، جو علامات، نمونوں یا آرائشی اشکال میں ظاہر ہوتا ہے، اوڈئیڈوکا موضوع ہے۔ کوریری پروجیکشن کے ذریعے کمرے کو ایک کلاڈوسکوپ منظر میں تبدیل کیا جاتا ہے، جس میں انسانی ہاتھوں کی مختلف حرکتیں دکھائی جاتی ہیں، جو پورے ماحول کے پیچیدہ نظام کا خلاصہ ریکارڈ کرنے والے بصری مظاہر ہیں، جبکہ یہ بڑے پیمانے پر جنگلات کی کٹائی، قدرتی وسائل کی سفاکانہ لوٹ مار اور انسانوں اور فطرت کے درمیان تفریق جو بلاواسطہ طور پر مغربی پاپوا کے مقامی لوگوں کے اجتماعی وجود کو ختم کر دیتی ہے، پر بات چیت کی گنجائش بھی پیدا کرتی ہے۔

2018 میں قائم کیے گئے اوڈئیڈو کلیکٹیوکے ارکان میں ڈکی تاکنڈاری، یانٹو گومبو، نیلسن نکیمے، بیٹی ادئی، کوسٹانٹینس راہرسن، مائیکل یان ڈیویس شامل ہیں۔ ان کے کام کو 24 ویں بینالے آف سڈنی اور 16 ویں جوگجا بیینالے میں پیش کیا گیا۔

 

 ڈکی تاکنڈاری ایک بصری فنکار ہیں جو پاپوا، انڈونیشیا کے سب سے مشرقی علاقے سے تعلق رکھتے ہیں اور اب یوگیاکارتا میں مقیم ہیں۔ وہ مختلف فنی ذرائع جیسے پینٹنگ، ڈرائنگ، لکڑی کی نقش کاری، انسٹالیشن اور سماجی شمولیت کے ذریعے پاپوا کے سماجی و ثقافتی مناظر کا گہرائی سے جائزہ لیتے ہیں، اور پاپوا کے سیاسی و انسانی حقوق کی جدوجہد کے لیے آواز اٹھانے کی کوشش کرتے ہیں۔ 2018 میں، تاکنڈاری نے اوڈیئڈو کلیکٹیو کی بنیاد رکھی، جو پاپوا کے مختلف علاقوں کے نوجوان فنکاروں کو یکجا کرنے والا ایک پلیٹ فارم ہے، نیز انہوں نے اپنے وطن میں ایک نئی فنی تحریک کی قیادت کی۔
