The Bed She Made: Performance by Kit Yi Wong
Performance
Wong Kit Yi’s performance was organized on 6th November 2024 at Lahore University of Management Sciences, and was attended by 180 guests. The performance was a combination of a video screening along with narration and singing. Overall the session explored the intersection of fertility, climate change, and social ecology, delving into universally controversial questions about procreation, environmental sustainability, and societal structures. Wong’s use of multimedia storytelling weaved these themes seamlessly. Her video edits, created in collaboration with a local production team, featured diverse voices and perspectives, offering rich insights into the relationship between reproduction and environmental concerns.
A standout element of the presentation was the ceramic pillow, a cultural artifact reimagined to explore fertility and its implications in Far East Asia. This object served as both a conceptual and literal centerpiece, symbolizing the connection between tradition, art, and sustainability.
Through a blend of humor, historical context, and innovative visuals, Wong addressed the tensions between individual desires, societal expectations, and planetary health. Her work prompted the audience to reflect deeply on how personal choices intertwine with broader ecological and sociopolitical frameworks. The screening was a thought-provoking exploration of creativity, responsibility, and the human condition in an era of unprecedented environmental and cultural shifts.
