Masooma Syed

Last Name Isabella, 2018
Installation, various mediums, new commission

Masooma Syed lives and works between Lahore, Pakistan, and Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Syed’s works engage with the notion of duality, reality and myth, conflict, provocations and pathos of the individual and the world at present. Her practice of jewelry-making runs parallel to her art practice as an equally meaningful critical practice.
For LB01, the artist unearthed the uniquely lived life of a fictional female character, who traversed across various public and private experiences. But now, only fragmentary clues remain as mute testimonies of this enigmatic life.
Syed trained at the National College of Arts, Lahore. She has exhibited widely in Pakistan and abroad, including in Australia, England, Germany and at the Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale in Japan.
