Another Side, brick, 2018
Site-specific installation at Bagh-e-Jinnah, new commission

Noor Ali Chagani lives and works in Lahore, Pakistan.
Often using miniature terracotta bricks as elements of sculptural work, the artist presents a unique take on the tradition of miniature painting.
For LB01 the artist created a site-specific installation at Bagh-e-Jinnah, which employed bricks that bear traces of their earlier use from previously inhabited and demolished buildings. The bricks salvaged from temporary constructions bring to the garden varied experiences of constructions inhabited and demolished into the garden, returning the damaged baked clay back to a state of nature.
Chagani completed a BFA in Miniature Painting from the National College of Arts, Lahore and works primarily in the medium of sculpture. He was nominated for the Victoria and Albert Museum’s prestigious Jameel Art Prize in 2011, and was awarded the guest residency at Rijksakademie, Netherlands in 2012.
